The House Guide

Everything a first-time guest at Silver Wattles should know before they arrive.

Before you arrive

What to Know Before You Come

  1. Silver Wattles is eighteen and over only; bring ID if you look anywhere near the line, staff are asked to check on busy nights.
  2. Nothing is played online — every table, every hand and every chip stays inside 42 Queen Street, and that’s not going to change.
  3. Chips are handed out with your ticket at the door and count points only; there’s no wagering and no cash prize anywhere in the house.
  4. There are no poker machines in the building and there never will be — Silver Wattles is felt, cards and a house dealer, nothing else.
How the evening runs

From the Door to the Felt

Arrive any time after six, take your ticket at the door, and the host will point you to dinner, the card parlour, or both depending on what you’ve booked.

Tables fill gradually through the evening rather than all at once; if your game isn’t running yet, the tea room is a comfortable place to wait.

Around the tables

Once You’re Seated

  1. Ask the house dealer before joining a table already in play — most will make room, but it’s their call how a hand’s timed.
  2. Keep phones off the felt; photos are fine in the lounge and near the kitchen, just not at the tables themselves.
  3. Chips stay at the table where they were handed out; they can’t be carried between the parlour and the back lounge or cashed in anywhere.
  4. Last hands are called around midnight on weeknights and half past on Saturdays, with time to finish whatever’s on the table.
